LookAtVietnam – Striker Dang Van Thanh has been named temporary coach of the Hai Phong Cement after coach Alfred Riedl was sacked on Monday.

Thanh, who was a former team captain, assistant coach last year, may lead the team in V-League match against two-time champions Hoang Anh Gia Lai at Pleiku Stadium on Sunday.

A source from team said, Le Thuy Hai, who helped Binh Duong win two titles in 2007-08, was asked by Hai Phong’s football club leadership to take over as full time coach for the rest of Hai Phong’s 2009 V-League season.

Hai, 63, is an assistant to the chairman of The Cong Club, Ho Tri Liem. If Hai accepts the offer, he is expected to earn a high salary of US$5,000 per month, a record salary compared to other Vietnamese coaches.

Former Thanh Hoa coach, Tran Van Phuc, former Hai Phong coach Dinh The Nam, and former Hai Phong Police coach, Nguyen Thanh Kiem are expected to be Hai’s assistants.

Riedl, who has been at the helm of the Vietnamese team for more than six years, is most remembered for leading Viet Nam to the Asian Cup’s quarter-finals is July 2007.

Riedl said “My wife and I will return Austria for about 10 days rest and then I will find a new job. Maybe I will come back Viet Nam to train.”
