Viettel Football Center recorded a surprise win over host Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) in a penalty shootout at the Pleiku Stadium Friday to grab the 2009 National U19 Football Championship.

The strategy proved successful in preventing the host players from playing skillfully, and Viettel players took good control of the first half.

However, the visitors began to show signs of fatigue in the second half, letting the hosts create a lot of scoring chances, but they were unable to convert any.

After regular play ended scoreless, winners had to be decided in a penalty shootout.

The home team looked nervous and goalie Anh Duc saved three shots by Minh Hoang, Quoc Cuong and Hoang Thien and helped the visitors to the trophy on a 4-3 margin.

For his excellent performance in the final match, Anh Duc won the “Best Goalkeeper” title. Striker Pham Thanh Tan of HAGL was the highest scorer of the tournament with five goals and midfielder Le Duy Thanh, also of HAGL, was chosen the best player of the tournament.
