Over a week after receiving the Golden Ball Award 2008, goalkeeper Duong Hong Son was served a warning, had to pay a VND10 million ($600) fine and was suspended from two matches for violating the rules of his club, T&T Hanoi.

T&T Hanoi announced its punishment for the football star on April 1, several days after the fight between Son, Vissai Ninh Binh’s Le Sy Manh against Le Hong Minh and Pham Minh Duc, who are also T&T Hanoi’s footballers at the Thanh Long Sports Centre in HCM City on March 29.

Le Sy Manh was a former player of T&T Hanoi, who was fired last year after being caught in the act of taking drugs with four other players on March 9, 2008. Manh then moved to the Vissai Ninh Binh club.

In a party with his previous teammate Le Sy Manh on March 29, drinking too much, Hong Son talked badly about his two teammates, Pham Minh Duc and Le Hong Minh.

After the party, Hong Son and Sy Manh went to the room of Hong Minh, where Manh kicked Hong Minh. They then went to the room of Minh Duc, where Sy Manh again kicked on Minh Duc’s chest.

The fight stopped when T&T Hanoi’s officials came after the call of Minh Duc.

The club’s chairman Do Quang Hien was very angry and asked all related people to send a report on March 30.

In a meeting with T&T Hanoi’s officials, Son admitted his mistake and asked for forgiveness. However, the club’s managers decided to give him a warning, suspend him from two matches and impose a fine of VND10 million on the goalkeeper. Son will have to practice with the U18 team from April 2 to 19.

Besides Hong Son, three other players, Xuan Tu, Ngoc Quan and Duc Dong, were warned and had to pay fine VND1 million each for violating the team’s rules: going out too late.
