Deadly beauty: French martial artists display their fighting skills at the ceremony.

These were some of the acts performed at the inauguration ceremony of the Traditional Martial Arts Club in Ha Noi’s Hoan Kiem District, held yesterday at the local Sports Centre.

The secretary general of the Martial Arts Federation of France and principal of the France-based Thanh Long Cuu Mon (Pure Dragon with Nine Principles) school, Andre Gazur, thanked the club for creating chances for his school to have meaningful exchanges with martial art schools in Viet Nam.

“Via practising Vietnamese traditional martial arts, I have had opportunities to study Vietnamese culture.

“‘Homeland’ is a sacred word. Having had time to study Vietnamese culture and practise martial arts in the country, we consider Viet Nam our second homeland,” he said.

The club leader, martial art master Nguyen Quang Dung, said that the club aimed to preserve, maintain and develop the culture of traditional martial arts.

“We are open to everyone to join and practise martial arts. We will arrange plans for members to participate in social and cultural activities, festivals, martial arts performances and competitions. The club’s athletes will be trained to develop their skills, in order to become professionally competent.”

The club consists of many martial arts schools and sport sections, including Thieu Lam Hong Gia (Shaolin Hunggar), Thanh Long Cuu Mon, Hoa Quyen, Vo Dang Chinh Tong, Wushu, the Unicorn-Lion-Dragon Performance Team of Hang Ma Ward and the Hoan Kiem Physical Fitness Development division.
