Hanoi, HCMC duke it out at billiards & snooker championships

| Hanoi dominated snooker while the Ho Chi Minh City squad took wins in eight-ball pool and one-cushion billiards at the Billiards and Snooker Championships in Nha Trang Tuesday. |
| After losing to the HCMC players in eight-ball pool, the Hanoi team shot brilliant nine-ball snooker in the first round of the tournament. The all-Hanoi snooker semifinals saw Nguyen Thanh Nam defeat Phan Hoang 7-3, and Duc Nghia defeat Thanh Tung9-7. Nam continued to play exceptionally and beat a less experienced Nghia 9-2 in the final to win the championship. Hoang came in third. But the southern squadron proved superior in one-cushion billiards with two of its athletes, Ma Minh Cam and Tran Le Anh Tuan, competing in the final. Cam showed a wonderful performance to beat Tuan 80-27 to take the championship. Home-team favorite Trinh Van Hien of the central province of Khanh Hoa came in third. The second round will take place in Ho Chi Minh City next month. Reported by Quang Huy |
