The national football team play a friendly at home against Greek national champions Olympiakos May 10.

Between 25 and 30 local players would be called for the match, said the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Players who are not in their best form in V-League will not play in order to give opportunities to new faces, said National Teams Department Deputy Manager Nguyen Trong Giap.

The National Teams Department and head coach Henrique Calisto will compare their lists of choices on April 20 before announcing the final list later this month, Giap said.

Calisto has not mentioned how many under 23s and how many older players will be chosen, Giap said.

In an agreement signed with VFF three days ago, the Greek club said it would send all the players from the national championship club team Olympiakos to Vietnam.

That includes Antonios Nikopolidis, Greece’s goalkeeper when the national team won the European championship in 2004, Darko Kovacevic, who used to play for Real Sociedad of Spain and Juventus of Italy, and captain Predrag Djordjevi.
