Boxing teams to train under Cuban coach; Discounts offered for Olympiacos tickets; HCM City team to enter dance champs; Teams seeking berth at Old Trafford

Viet Nam men’s boxing team will be coached by Cuba’s Facundo Fellzola Duany from next month, said head of the boxing department of the National Sports Administration, Nguyen Van Thinh.

The 52-year-old coach, who has 12 years experience, will train the men’s team for the SEA Games in Laos this December.

The team has been summoned to a training session at the National Sport Camp No 3 in Da Nang City.

Discounts offered for Olympiacos tickets

Fans will get a 5 per cent discount on tickets to the football match between Viet Nam and Greece’s Olympiacos if they book from April 20-29, match distributor Pham & Partners said yesterday.

Tickets for the match will cost VND150-500,000. Fans buying tickets in the VND500,000 (US$27) and VND350,000 ($19.4) price bracket will get the 5 per cent discount for reservations before April 30.

Viet Nam will meet Olympiacos at the 40,000-seat My Dinh National Stadium in Ha Noi on May 14.

To avoid the chaos surrounding ticket sales at several recent international tournaments, organisers plan to sell tickets via www.olympiacos.com.vn or vff.org.vn.

Tickets for the match are expected to be in the hands of fans by May 9.

HCM City team to enter dance champs

The Nhon Nghia Duong team will perform a six-member lion and dragon dance at the World Lion and Dragon Dance Championship in Shanghai, China on May 8-13.

The HCM City-based team will show in Nanshi (Unicorn Dance) and Bieshi (Lion Dance) at the world championship as part of their preparations for the third Asian Indoor Games (AIG) in Viet Nam in October.

Lion and dragon dancing is one of 20 official sports at the AIG this year.

Teams seeking berth at Old Trafford

Thuy Loi, or Water Resource College team, and Horizon booked semi-final berths in the Budweiser 6v6 International Cup after ranking first and second in qualifiers in Ha Noi last week.

The two northern representatives will compete in the semifinals against the two best teams from the south at HCM City’s Thanh Long Sports Centre on April 30.

The amateur mini football tournament, which is played at six-a-side pitches following futsal (indoor football) rules - held for the first time in Viet Nam - is organised by the Viet Nam Football Federation and Budweiser, sponsors of English Premiership team Manchester United.

The winners will take a cash-prize of US$1,000 and get a chance to play for the 16-nation World 6v6 Champions at Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium on May 25.
