VietNamNet Bridge – According to the FIFA rankings for April 2009, the Vietnamese national football squad gained two more grades, standing at the 134th position.

Thailand still stays firmly at the first position in Southeast Asia, or the 113th of the world, five grades up. Singapore falls by one grade, standing at the 133rd, only four points higher than Vietnam.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation, the national squad will have a friendly match against the Kuwait squad at the guest stadium. If Vietnam wins in this match, its position will be improved next month.

In Asia, the top posts still belong to Australia and Japan. After falling by four grades in March, Iran continues to plunge by 11 grades, giving the third position in Asia to South Korea.

In the world’s top ten, with 31 winning matches, Spain takes the first position in April, with 1,729 points. This result helped the current European champions to make a record as ranking first on FIFA ratings for the longest time since this ranking appeared in 1993.

France passed Portugal to return to the top ten teams of the world.

Teams of the most remarkable progress include Greece (13th, 6 grades up), Uruguay (16th, 5 up), Switzerland (18th, 4 up), and Serbia (23rd, 13 up). However, the most impressive case is Bosnia – Herzegovina, which stands at 38th, and up by 38 grades.

The FIFA ranking for May 2009 will be released on May 6, 2009.
