Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) jumped three places to second after a 5-2 home victory over Thanh Hoa at Pleiku Stadium in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai Sunday.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the 2003-2004 champions, who were considered one of the contenders for the title this year but languished near the bottom in the first rounds of the season.

The home team HAGL scored three goals in the first half and two in the second. At the other end of the field, striker Dinh Tung’s brace still wasn’t enough for visitors Thanh Hoa, who moved one place to 12th, just one spot from the relegation zone.

Da Nang continued to stay atop the table with five points clear of HAGL after a 1-0 home win at Chi Lang Stadium over The Cong, who remain in 10th spot.

Last week’s second-placed Khatoco Khanh Hoa fell to seventh after a 2-4 loss to Fourth Military Zone, who climbed three places to third.

Dong Thap dropped one place to fourth after a scoreless draw at Thien Truong Stadium with home team Nam Dinh, who moved up three places from the bottom.

At Hang Day Stadium, T&T Hanoi suffered a 0-1 home loss to Hai Phong and fell one place to the bottom of the league while the visitors climbed three places to sixth.

Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) and Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) both slid one place to eighth and fifth respectively after a 2-2 draw at Long An Stadium.

DTLA conceded the first goal after Eric Muranda scored the opener for SLNA at the beginning of the second half; but the 2005-2006 champions made it 2-1 before letting the visitors score the equalizer in the last minute of stoppage time.

Defending champs Binh Duong and HCMC Club were set to play last Friday but the match was cancelled due to a lightning strike on Go Dau Stadium. Binh Duong is ready to travel to the Maldives to play Valencia tomorrow in the last round of the AFC Cup qualifier.
