Chess master Le Quang Liem from HCM City grabbed two championship titles at the National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2009, which concluded in HCM City yesterday.

Liem defeated the runner-up Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son in both rapid and blitz events.

The Ho Chi Minh team also dominated the tournament with four championship titles in the men’s and women’s team events.

The National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2009, held from April 30 to May 4 in Ho Chi Minh City, had drawn the participation of more than 170 chess players from 18 units nationwide.

This annual event aimed to select four most outstanding players for the national team in the preparation for the Asian Indoor Games 2009.
