LookAtVietnam – Thousands of locals and tourists enthusiastically cheered on 62 jockeys competing in a three-hour horse race held in Bac Ha district in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on May 30.

The race comprised three rounds: the qualifying, the semifinal (with 12 athletes) and the final (with three athletes). First, second and third prizes were awarded to three ethnic minority winners.

The Bac Ha horse race, which is part of the tourism cooperation programme among the three northern provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho, will be held annually from this year on.
