HCM City dominate tennis tournament; Hai Phong to test ex-Inter Milan player; ACB to play Hong Kong in AFC Cup; Volleyballers to get money boost

Tanimex HCM City men’s and women’s teams swept the titles at the National Team Tennis Championship on Sunday.

In southern Binh Duong Province, the women beat Da Nang 2-0 for their fourth win in a round robin. In the singles, Huynh Mai Huynh beat Da Nang’s Thanh Binh 6-0, 6-1 before team-mate Tam Hao crushed Dan Thi 6-2, 6-0.

Ngo Quang Huy and men’s top seed Do Minh Quan dominated to take wins over Tran Duc Quynh and Nguyen Tri Nguyen, of Binh Duong.

Hai Phong to test ex-Inter Milan player

Mohamed Kallon, a former player for Italian Serie A club Inter Milan, is to trail next week for the Vietnamese premier league side Hai Phong Cement.

The Sierra Leonean played 42 matches and scored 14 goals for Inter Milan during 1998-04 and moved to United Arab Emirate’s AI-Shabab last year.

Hai Phong’s crucial 1-0 win over Ha Noi T&T on Sunday puts them seventh on the V-League table.

The northern port team has recruited five foreign players in a bid to make the top three.

ACB to play Hong Kong in AFC Cup

Ha Noi ACB will host Eastern Athletic, of Hong Kong-China, In group G of the Asian Football Confederation Cup at Ha Noi’s Hang Day Stadium today.

The National Cup winners, in the same group as Valencia of Maldives, Thailand’s Chonburi football club and Malaysian Kedah, can’t make the knock-out stages after poor performances.

Teams play a two-leg round robin with the two top making the knock-out stage. This is the first time the team has competed for the cup.

Volleyballers to get money boost

National volleyball team members will receive VND200,000 (US$11) each from the Viet Nam Volleyball Federation while training with the team.

The federation’s general secretary Tran Duc Phan said it was the first time team members have received the supplement.

The women play in the Asian club’s championship in Thailand next month while the men are preparing for December’s Southeast Asian Games in Laos.
