Dao Thi Mien, whose Hoa Hop Ha Noi team was third, was named the tournament’s best player while the top goalkeeper was VCM’s Thanh Hao.

Cham, with seven, led the goal scorers.

Juniors to kick off for U-17

The Viettel soccer training centre has drawn group A of the National U-17 Football Championship qualifiers next month, the organising committee said yesterday.

Ha Noi-based Viettel will compete against Hoa Phat Ha Noi, T&T Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Military Zone 4 and Ninh Binh in group A in Ha Noi.

The championship, organised by Bong Da (Football) newspaper, will have 23 teams competing in a round robin in three groups for six berths in the final round.

Defending champions Song Lam Nghe An and hosts Nam Dinh have a bye in the final round at Nam Dinh’s Thien Truong Stadium on July 8-17.

Barcelona coaches instruct 250

Three coaches from the Football Centre of Barcelona taught football skills to 30 coaches and 250 youngsters at the Hoa Lu ground, District 1, HCM City.

The three-day football festival, “Just for Kicks”, aimed to encourage those aged 10-14 to play football. The programme will also be held in India. The project was first held in Singapore in 2007, when more than 400 youngsters played football with guidance from Japanese coaches. The success in Singapore encouraged organisers, including the Barcelona centre and the Viet Nam Football Federation, to expand the programme.
