Kim Chi back to national women’s squad; Sea Games 25 to be broadcast live in six countries; Mongolian cyclist snatches yellow jersey

Kim Chi back to national women’s squad

34-year-old former captain of the National Women’s Football Squad Doan Kim Chi is about to come back to the team at the invitation of national coach Chen Yun Fat and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Coach Chen Yun Fat expected Chi’s experience would help the national squad in preparation for the qualifying round of the Asian Women’s Football Championship, due to be held in Thailand from July 3-12, 2009.

The national women’s team will be called up for the first time of the year on May 24 at the Thanh Long Sports Centre with the participation of many new faces including goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Hoa of Vietnam Coal and Minerals, Tran Thi Thu and Nguyen Thi Nguyet from Ha Nam.

Sea Games 25 to be broadcast live in six countries

The 25th Southeast Asian Games, held in Vientiane, Laos from December 9-18 will be broadcast live on 14 channels in six ASEAN countries.

Television networks that have agreed to broadcast the SEA Games live include Brunei Radio and Television, Lao National Radio and Lao National Television, Lao Star Channel, Forever Group Co. Ltd (FRTB4-Myanmar), Media Corp TV Singapore Pte. Ltd, National Broadcasting Service of Thailand (NBT), TPBS, Channel 7, Channel 5, VTC Digital-Vietnam, VTV, TOT Co. Ltd. and CAT Telecom Co. Ltd.

According to the Organising Board of the Sea Games 25, Laos will use 16 broadcasting stations as well as employ more than 144 people to cover all sports events.

Mongolian cyclist snatches yellow jersey

Mongolian cyclist Ochirbaatar Tumurbaatar grabbed the yellow jersey of the ’Back to Dien Bien Phu’ Cycling Race, which concluded in Dien Bien City yesterday.

His teammate Khangarid occupied the second position and also took the polka dot jersey for the King of the Mountains. Vietnamese Trinh Phat Dat from the An Giang Plant Protection team stood third. The green jersey went to Mai Nguyen Hung from the Saigon Plant Protection team.

The Mongolian team also topped the men’s team event, followed by the Domesco Dong Thap team and the Saigon Plant Protection team.

In the women’s event, Phan Thi Thuy Trang from the Agifish An Giang team finished first at the final stage and won the yellow jersey. She was followed by Hoang Oanh from the Saigon Plant Protection team and Vu Thi Thuong from Son La team.

The Binh Duong Sewerage and Drainage team topped the women’s team event while the Domesco Dong Thap team and the Agifish An Giang team stood second and third respectively.

The ’Back to Dien Bien Phu’ Cycling Race, held by the Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People’s Army) Newspaper from May 2-6 was a one of major sport activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the Great Victory of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2009).
