The Taiwan-based Victor Badminton Racket Corporation has announced it will offer Vietnam’s top male badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh a four-year sponsorship deal worth US$96,000.

Speaking to Thanh Nien last week, Minh said Victor Badminton’s General Director Shu-Yuan Chen had told him the company would sponsor three Asian games a year of Minh’s choosing.

In June 2007, Minh, who is currently ranked 11th in the world, received a two-year sponsorship of $6,000 from Yonex. At that time, he was ranked 56th in the world.

In April this year, local company Becamex Binh Duong agreed to grant Minh VND20 million ($1,125) per month for one year.

“When Minh plays for the country, he must obey regulations set by the national badminton team’s sponsors,” Vietnam Badminton Federation General Secretary Le Thanh Sang said. “In other competitions, he can wear the shirts provided by Becamex Binh Duong and Victor.”

From the 9th to 14th this month, Minh will play at the Aviva Open Singapore Super Series 2009. He will then compete at the Indonesia Open 2009 from the 16-21 and at the Philippines Open 2009 from June 30 until July 5.

From August 10-16 Minh will head to India for the 2009 World Badminton Championships.
