LookAtVietnam – Becamex Binh Duong have a chance to reach the quarter-final of the Asian Football Confederation Cup when they take on Malaysia’s Kedah in the round of 16 at home in Thu Dau Mot today, June 23.

Ambitious nature: Becamex Binh Duong’s Huynh Kesley Alves (right) vies with a player of Maldives’ Valencia during the AFC Cup in March. Binh Duong win 3-0.

Defending V-League champions Becamex Binh Duong topped Group H have several good players like Huynh Kesley Alves, Philani Bhekizizwe Lancelot Kubheka, and Silver Ball-winner Vu Nhu Thanh. They are expected to beat the second-placed team in Group G which has many under-23 players and no foreign player.

Though languishing in seventh in the V-League this year after 17 rounds, Binh Duong had scored five wins and lost just once in the group stages to top with 13 points.

Coach Mai Duc Chung admitted the team was finding it tough to play its best teams in the V-League and AFC Cup while also ensuring players did not burn out.

“I rate Kedah very highly after they thrashed Viet Nam’s Ha Noi ACB 7-0 in the group G,” Chung said.

“At the end of this week, we have a tough game against Hai Phong but we will do everything in our power to win the match today.”

Kedah, which scored just seven points in the group stage, has played four times against Vietnamese opponents in the past, also beating Sai Gon Port once and losing once each to Ha Noi ACB and Dong Nai.

Binh Duong is a very strong team and has many good players and his team would have to be very careful of players like Kesley and Philani, said Mohd Azraai Khor, who has coached Kedah since 2004.

But both teams have a chance to win the match, he said.

The match kicks off at 6pm at Go Dau Stadium.
