HCM City will host the International Athletics Tournament Open from July 10-12, which will see the participation of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore as well as the host Vietnam.

The Republic of Korea who ranked second last year, has withdrawn.

Vietnam will have 250 athletes compete at the event. Among its brightest medal hopefuls are Vu Thi Huong, Nguyen Van Huynh, Bui Thi Nhung, Vu Van Huyen, Truong Thanh Hang and Nguyen Dinh Cuong.

The tournament comes ahead of the Asian Indoor Games and the Southeast Asian Games later this year.

Last year, Vietnam cleaned up at the medals table with 24 golds, 34 silvers and 33 bronzes.
