LookAtVietnam – World badminton No 15 Nguyen Tien Minh earned his entry into round two of the Djarum Indonesia Super Series after successfully beating Przemyslaw Wacha of Poland 2-0 yesterday, June 17, in Indonesia.

Nguyen Tien Minh.
Minh, the No 1 player in Viet Nam, dominated the match from the beginning with stormy volleys over Wacha who ranks ninth in the world to win the first set 21-18.

The second set seemed even easier for the Beijing Olympian, who was perhaps still pumped from his defeat over world No 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the third round of the Singapore Open last week.

The Vietnamese won the second game 21-14 and the finished the match in only 32 minutes.

Today, he will face his next rival, Peter Hoeg Gade of England, who is seeded No 2 in the tournament. Gade defeated Kashyap Parupalli of India 21-18, 21-12 yesterday.

On the women’s side, Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung of Viet Nam failed to reach the competition’s main round.

Ranked 108th in the world, Nhung competed in the qualifying rounds where she came from behind to win the first match 18-21, 21-7, 21-16 over Yuan Kartika Putri of Indonesia. But Nhung, who successfully grabbed an Olympic ticket last August in Beijing, could not overcome Singaporean Mingtian Fu in the second match later on Tuesday, losing 19-21, 21-23.

It was Nhung’s second loss to Fu in a week. The first loss was in Singapore with the same score.

The Indonesian tournament has drawn more than 260 players competing in five categories: men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. The finals are scheduled for Sunday with the winners set to walk away with their share of US$250,000 in prizes.
