Wushu artists take five golds; Viet Nam reaches futsal semis; Journalists tested on tennis court; Ha coaches homeland team

Viet Nam’s wushu team bagged five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals at the on going Asian Youth Wushu Championship in China.

Tran Thi Minh Huyen won a gold in the women’s janjiquan (sword) taolu (performance) on Tuesday.

Artist Nguyen Viet Cuong took two silvers in the men’s nanquan and janjiquan.

The team was ranked second in the taolu event after Tuesday’s competition.

In the sanshou (combat) event, five Vietnamese artists fought their way into the finals in different weight categories. The championship will close this weekend.

Viet Nam reaches futsal semis

Viet Nam cruised to the semi-finals of the Asean Futsal Federation Championships by downing Timor Leste at the Phu Tho Stadium in HCM City yesterday.

The hosts crushed Timor Leste 21-1 in their final round robin match in group B after downing The Philippines 3-0.

With six points from the two wins, the hosts and the Philippines qualified for the semi-finals.

Viet Nam will play the loser of the match between Thailand and Indonesia while the Philippines face the winner.

Journalists tested on tennis court

Over 100 amateur tennis players will take part in the Ha Noi Open tennis tournament starting next Friday, the Ha Noi Tennis Federation has said.

The event, held on the occasion of Viet Nam Journalism Day (June 21), will see journalists and amateurs in Ha Noi competing in men’s doubles at the Cau Giay Sports and Culture Centre.

This is the second time in a row that the Ha Noi Tennis Federation has organised the event for Vietnamese journalists.

Ha coaches homeland team

Former Ha Noi-based T&T football coach Trieu Quang Ha, who was sacked by the team last month, has taken a job with the Thanh Hoa team.

The 37-year-old was appointed by Thanh Hoa on Monday to lead the team through the end of the season.

Ha, who was born in Thanh Hoa, has a tough job ahead of him, as he must help Thanh Hoa climb back up from the bottom of the V-League table.

After 13 games in the first leg of the V-League, seven coaches have been fired for poor performances, including Austrian Alfred Riedl of Hai Phong Cement, Vuong Tien Dung of The Cong, Thai Dusit Chalermsan of Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Portuguese coach Francisco Vital of Binh Duong, Tran Cong Minh of Dong Tam Long An and Nguyen Ngoc Hao of Nam Dinh.
