Viet Nam sends team of six to badminton open in Malaysia; Five golds for Viet Nam at junior table tennis tournament; Binh Duong cruises into quarters by demolishing Malaysians

Viet Nam’s team at the $120,000 Malaysia Badminton Open, which started yesterday, June 23 in Johor, is Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung, Le Hai Anh, Nguyen Ngoc Tung, Tran Duc Phong, Bui Bang Duc and Nguyen Ngoc Manh.

They are contesting the men’s and women’s singles and the men’s doubles.

Vietnamese No 1 Nguyen Tien Minh is resting after the Indonesia and Singapore Super Series events but will contest the Philippines Open later this month.

Five golds for Viet Nam at junior table tennis tournament

Viet Nam won five golds, a silver and two bronzes at the Southeast Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship which ended on Monday in Thailand.

In the men’s team event, Viet Nam’s Duy Hoang, Duc Hoang, Duc Luan and Huu Duc combined to beat Singapore 3-2 in the U18 final.

In the women’s event, Viet Nam was third after losing to Thailand in the semi-finals.

In the men’s double, Duy Hoang and Duc Hoang beat Thailand 3-2 while in the mixed doubles, Duy Hoang and Minh Thuy beat Singapore by the same score.

Duy Hoang took the team’s fourth gold when he downed a Thai rival in the men’s singles final, 4-0.

In the U15 women’s singles, Nguyen Viet Linh easily won through to the final where she beat a Thai player, 4-1, for her first regional tournament gold.

In other U15 age groups, Minh Thuy and Dinh Thi Hang were runners-up in the women’s doubles while the latter was third in the women’s singles.

Binh Duong cruises into quarters by demolishing Malaysians

Huynh Kesley scored four to take Becamex Binh Duong through to the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederation Cup against Kedah of Malaysia 8-2 yesterday.

In the 17th minute Helio Da Silva Assis opened and shortly after Nguyen Vu Phong doubled the score; Huynh Kesley scored in the 40th minute and Thien scored three minutes before the break to be 4-0 in front.

Kedah pulled two goals back in the second half but a hattrick from Kesley and a goal from Duc completed Binh Duong’s 8-2 demolition.
