Wushu artists leave for Macau; Duong brings home third gold; Brunei withdraw before kick-off

Vietnamese martial artists are competing at the Asian Junior Wushu Championships which opened yesterday, June 8 in Macau, China.

Nineteen athletes under coach Bui Truong Giang, head of the Wushu Department of the National Sports Administration, are aiming to for second. The finals are on tomorrow.

Viet Nam was second last year in South Korea with six golds, 12 silvers and four bronze medals.

China topped the leader board with 24 golds and two silvers.

Duong brings home third gold

Vu Thuy Duong has a hat-trick of gold medals from girls under-17 breaststroke events at the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championship in Malaysia.

Duong won the 200m in 2 minutes 44.35 seconds from Noviandari Afli of Indonesia (2:44.73) and Singapore’s Sabrina Heng (2:46.05).

Earlier, Hanoian Duong won the 50m and 100m breaststroke events.

Her teammate Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen of HCM City took her third bronze on Sunday in the girls U14 50m event.

Later Tran Tam Nguyen was second in the boys U14 100m freestyle while Nguyen Huy Dat was third in the boys U12 200m butterfly.

Thailand finished top of the leader board with 47 golds, 32 silvers and 30 bronze medals.

Host Malaysia were second with 21 golds, 23 silvers and 18 bronzes.

Singapore were third with 14 golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronze medals.

Brunei withdraw before kickoff

Viet Nam beat the Philippines 3-0 in group B opener of the Southeast Asian Futsal Championship at HCM City’s Phu Tho Gymnasium yesterday.

Viet Nam play in group B with East Timor and the Philippines.

Viet Nam ranked top of group to qualify for semi-finals.

They are expected to Thailand, who beat Myanmar 16-6 in group A yesterday, in the final.

In group A, Thailand will play Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar.

Two top teams each group will qualify for semi-finals.
