It was the first V-league game between Dung’s club and The Cong since they parted company two months ago.

The veteran coach was without Brazilian star Denilson de Oliveira, who may not play until the end of this month because of injury.

His team started well and after six minutes Bernard made a perfect pass to Leandro, who headed home strongly.

Both sides spoilt many chances until The Cong, with strong hometown support, levelled 18 minutes after the break.

Hai Phong’s goalkeeper Dang Tuan Diep missed a pass to The Cong’s newcomer Vanderlei Lima, who was left unchallenged in front of goal.

The host team took the lead late in the game when Trinh Quang Vinh passed from the left wing to give Reginaldo More an easy tap into the net.

Hai Phong, with 19 points, drop to ninth while The Cong’s 17 lifts them out of the bottom three.

On their home ground yesterday, defending champion Becamex Binh Duong beat Dong Thap 4-3.

Binh Duong’s Nkemi scored from a header after three minutes before Dong Thap made use of their domination with two goals later in the half for a 2-1 lead.

Binh Duong fought back in the second with goals to Huynh Kesley Alves, who became a Vietnamese citizen several months ago, and Mbabazi to make it 3-2

Dong Thap suffered a huge loss when forward Anjembe Timothy received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Binh Duong took full advantage with a fourth goal for 4-2 from a Hoang Vuong header.

Dong Thap narrowed the gap with a straight shot from Van Nghia.

Coach Mai Duc Chung has done well since he joined Binh Duong last month.

Despite the loss, Dong Thap remain fourth with 21 points because the two teams below them did not improve yesterday.

Military Zone 4 lost 1-4 to Dong Tam Long An while the match between former champion Hoang Anh Gia Lai and HCM City was postponed after five members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai were in hospital and isolated because of high temperature and respiratory problems.

The other members of the team were moved to a hotel and their campus was sterilised.
