V-League organizers Monday claimed that referee Nguyen Trong Thu was impartial in the Dong Thap – Hai Phong match on Sunday. Dong Thap will face heavy penalties for the riots, which ensued after the match.

V-League officials made the statement after reviewing video from the Sunday match.

In the 94th minute, Hai Phong goalkeeper Tuan Diep tackled Minh Hung in the penalty area. Referee

Nguyen Trong Thu did not call a foul on the specific play, angering the fans and coaching staff of Dong Thap.

After the game, The Mekong Delta fans surrounded the officiating staff. It took security forces more than an hour to escort the referees to their car. The officials left immediately for Ho Chi Minh City.

Dong Thap supporters threw stones and coconuts at the visiting Hai Phong fans and their vehicles. Officials also reported several minor injuries.
