LookAtVietnam – Viet Nam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh beat Chao Huang of Singapore in the quarter-finals yesterday to move to the semi-finals today, July 3 at the US$120,000 Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Grand Prix Badminton Tournament.

Minh, ranked world badminton No 13, successfully beat Chao 21-12, 21-13.

The first Vietnamese to compete in an Olympic badminton event and the event’s No 2, Minh, upset Chao with a strong attack to win the first set 21-12.

Furthermore, Minh rallied in his second game and beat his Singapore rival 21-13.

The event, which watches top calibre shuttlers from all over the world, is held at the Phil sports Arena (formerly ULTRA), in Pasig City, and wraps up on July 5.

The annual 4-star tournament that brought world-class shuttlers close to thousands of Filipino badminton enthusiasts is back, after taking a break during the Olympic season in 2008.

On its third run, the prestigious Philippine Open Gold Grand Prix Badminton Championships, sponsored by Bingo Bonanza Corporation, guarantees an action-packed badminton event highlighted by top sporting performances among players from Korea, Malaysia, China, Viet Nam, Philippines, Indonesia and England.
