Ngan wins karatedo gold at World Games

Vietnamese female martial artist Nguyen Hoang Ngan Sunday won the kata [Karatedo] gold medal at the World Games after beating Maria Dimitrova of Dominica in the final match in Kaohsiung, Taipei Sunday.

Four out of five judges gave Ngan winning points while one judge had the Dominican in the lead.

This is the first gold medal Vietnam has ever won at a World Games competition. With the gold medal, Vietnam was ranked 38 out of 62 squads that won medals at the July 16-26 competition.

Malaysia was in 31st place, Thailand in 32nd, Indonesia in 34th and the Philippines in 56th. Russia topped the event with a tally of 18 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze medals.
