The national football squad’s official sponsor, paint maker 4 Oranges, kicked off a campaign to support the team’s 25th Southeast Asian Games bid by rolling out a huge football for fans to sign Monday.

Vietnam Football Federation Vice President Duong Vu Lam was the first to sign the giant ball, which is six-meters tall and weighs 1,200 kilograms, at the campaign launch Saturday night.

The launch, in the Mekong province of An Giang, aimed to begin generating buzz for the team’s SEA Games bid in Laos this December.

National team members Dinh Hoang La and Dinh Hoang Max as well as former national players Tran Minh Chien and Nguyen Van Sy also signed the ball in support of the team at the ceremony.

After signing the ball, 4 Oranges marketing director Chalermsak Pimolsri said he hoped the campaign would boost the team’s spirit.

He said the ball will travel throughout Vietnam, collecting signatures all summer and into October as the whole country was crazy about football.

The campaign organizers plan to bring the huge ball to Laos in December to support the team wherever they play.
