LookAtVietnam – Top scorer Do Thi Ngoc Cham scored six of Viet Nam’s 10 goals as they crushed Kyrgyzstan in a group C qualifier for next year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Cup.

On the burst: Vietnamese midfielder Le Thi Thuong in possession against Kyrgyzstan in their Asian Women’s football Cup qualifier in HCM City. Viet Nam won 10-1 to lead group C.

The win at HCM City’s Thanh Long Sport Centre on Saturday means the team can qualify for the final round if they beat Hong Kong-China on Wednesday.

The final round of the cup, also known as the Asian Women’s Football Championship, will feature the three top teams from group qualifiers facing China, North Korea, South Korea, Japan and Australia, which all gain automatic entry.

Viet Nam won the Southeast Asian Games tournament between 2001-05 but have yet to reach the semi-finals of the championships.

Captain Doan Kim Chi scored first for Viet Nam after 10 minutes before Ngoc Cham netted in the 22nd and 25th minutes. Nguyen Thi Nga made it a 4-0 half time lead when she scored a few minutes later.

Viet Nam dominated in the second half against the young side.

Ha Noi-born striker Cham, who won the Golden Ball as the best country’s top women’s footballer last year, scored in the 58, 62 and 71st minutes while Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet netted in the 59th.

Pokachalova Svetlana pulled one back for the visitors from a spot kick in the 78th minute before Le Thi Oanh had the final say in the 83rd for a totally convincing win for the home side.

Viet Nam had a good preparation for the qualifiers. They had 1-0 wins over the junior team at the Guangzhou Sports Academy and a senior team at Guangdong during a 12-day tour to China last month.
