Seven top golfers from Vietnam are busy practicing and packing their golf bags in preparation for their competition in the Mercedes Trophy Asian Golf Final.

The seven are the top finishers of June’s annual Mercedes-Benz Vietnam Final 2009 at Ocean Dunes Golf Club in Phan Thiet City. They defeated 140 qualified golfers from 14 country clubs in Vietnam to secure the right to play at the Asian Final with Mercedes-Benz’s sponsorship of air tickets, accommodations and green fees.

Khoa told the Daily on Wednesday he had been working to improve his physical strength and sharpen his golf skills before the tournament.

Khoa of the seven golfers said he and other golfers had completed a five-day training camp at the Dalat Palace Golf Club in the resort city of Dalat.

The Novotel Dalat Hotel sponsored a US$10,000 package of accommodation, meals and unlimited course time for the golfers as part of the hotel’s commitment to the development of golf and the community in Vietnam.

“The trip to Dalat should give me all the practice I need heading into the tournament,” said Dung, the only female representing Vietnam at the Mercedes Trophy Asian Golf Final.

“I am proud to be the only female representing Vietnam and will try my best in this tournament to represent my country well,” said Dung, who has a handicap of five.

Novotel Dalat general manager Tony Chisholm said he was confident that after the camp the golfers were feeling well trained and at the top of their game.

For the past three years, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam has opened the tournament to not only its customers, but also to potential and future customers.
