LookAtVietnam – The People’s Committee of Hai Phong has decided to shut down the city’s football fan club after only three months for failing to fulfill its responsibilities.

Hai Phong Cement club suffered great financial losses due to its football fans’ behaviour during V-League 2008. The team was fined several times because its fans shot flares and threw objects onto the field during the club’s matches.

This May, the Hai Phong People’s Committee decided to set up the Hai Phong Football Fan Club, hoping that the club would professionalise the cheering activities of football fans. This club was based on Lach Tray Stadium’s campus and managed by the Hai Phong People’s Committee.

However, Hai Phong fans continued to cause serious losses for their team throughout V-League 2009.

Hai Phong Cement Club had to play one match at its home stadium to an empty house because its fans had thrown ice bags at a coaching assistant during its match against the HCM City football club. Because of this, Hai Phong Cement Club lost over a billion dong from ticket revenues.

In the latest case, Hai Phong fans shot flares off at Lach Trach stadium and their team had to pay a fine of 25 million dong.

For these developments, the Hai Phong People’s Committee said that the football fan club didn’t fulfill its responsibility and must be dissolved. The Hai Phong Cement Club will create a new fan club according to a new model.
