Hoai Thu wins gold at Asian Martial Arts Games

| Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu on Tuesday took the taekwondo gold medal at the 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok after beating Taiwanese athlete Kuan 6-2 in the womenâs under 55kg category final. |
| Thu, the Southeast Asian champion, beat South Korean Choi Song 3-1 in the qualifier. She then defeated Lao martial artist Phonvilay in the quarters before brushing aside Kazakh athlete Sardarova 4-1 in the semis. It is the first gold medal the Vietnamese squad has won at this competition. In pencak silat, Southeast Asian champion Truong Van Mao has advanced to the menâs under 75kg category final after beating Khalid Mohd of Malaysia 4-1 in the semis. Le Thi Hong Ngoan, also the Southeast Asian champ, has progressed to the womenâs under 70kg category final against Enmdah of Indonesia. Reported by Long Ha |
