Nguyen Hoang Ngan has always been considered a bright star in the Vietnam karatedo with a diverse collection of medals both at domestic and international tournaments.

The passion for karatedo came to Ngan since she was just a little girl. At the age of 11, Ngan was instructed by former coach of the Vietnam national karatedo squad Doan Dinh Long and quickly showed her talent in this martial arts.

After two years of basic practise, Ngan was chosen to the People’s Police gifted team and she soon became a member of the national squad thanks to the achievements at junior championships.

The name of Nguyen Hoang Ngan started to draw attentions from the 22nd Southeast Asian Games, held in Vietnam in 2003 when the 19 year-old martial artist secured both golds in the individual and team events. Two years later, Ngan added an Asian silver and another Southeast Asian silver to her medal collection.

The ’golden’ girl of the Vietnam karatedo was officially crowned as world champion at the 15th World Championship held in Greece from July 2-9, 2006. Ngan was the only representative of Vietnam at the championship which had drawn the participation of more than 400 karatedo athletes from 29 countries and territories. Ngan continued her success on an international scale with three consecutive gold medals at the world championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively.

Ngan won her latest gold at the World Games, held in Taiwan in July 26, 2009 and thanks to her important gold, Vietnam ranked 38 out of 62 teams snatching medals at the Games.

Ngan is currently attending a four-year training course in Japan with a determination of bagging a gold at the ASIAD in China next year.
