Viet Nam join world training course; Viet Nam drops 13 in ranking; Ha Noi wins national youth shooting; Big teams enter Asian Indoor Games

Vietnamese were among 20 young talented badminton players at a training course organised by the Badminton Asian Confederation in Puchong, Malaysia.

The organisers plan to hold the courses annually with the aim of qualifying some players for the London Olympics in 2012.

Players from Pakistan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Lebanon attended a session in Bukit Kiara, Malaysia.

Viet Nam drops 13 in ranking

Without any recent competition, Viet Nam has dropped 13 places to 144th among 201 countries, headed by Brazil, in rankings released by the World football governing body FIFA.

Viet Nam ranks behind Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia in the Southeast Asian region. The only top 10 change was Germany climbing to fourth.

Ha Noi wins national youth shooting

Ha Noi’s team dominated the National Youth Shooting Champs with 13 golds, eight silver and 10 bronze medals.

HCM City (7-8-5) and the Army (5-9-5) were next while last year’s leading teams, Hai Phong, the Ministry of Public Security and Hai Duong, weren’t placed. The champs attracted 132 shooters and ended on Sunday at the National Sport Centre in Ha Noi.

Big teams enter Asian Indoor Games

Japan, which intends to send a team of 373, is among the 37 nations and territories to register for the third Asian Indoor Games in Viet Nam.

The Viet Nam Olympic Committee said the nations have registered 4,284 athletes with Thailand, 348, and India, 264, also entering big teams while hosts Viet Nam heads the list with 417.

Ha Noi, the Games’ focal point, will host 2,130 athletes from 36 teams while HCM City, where muay Thai, Vovinam, footsal (indoor football), lion and dragon dance will be decided, will have about 1,400 athletes from 35 groups.

Entries for the third Games close on September 15 and competition starts the following month.
