HCM City scoop national team chess events; Ha Noi too strong at taekwondo champs; Vietnamese in form at Chinese chess titles

HCM City won the men’s and women’s competitions at the National Team Chess Championship in Nha Trang City on Sunday.

In the women’s team, Le Kieu Thien Kim, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Quynh Anh, Ngoc Tu and Phuong Dung helped HCM City win the trophy.

On the men’s side, Tu Hoang Thong and Nguyen Thanh Son helped HCM City get gold, despite being without International Grand Master Le Quang Liem.

Ha Noi too strong at taekwondo champs

After four days of competition at Binh Thuan Gymnasium, Ha Noi triumphed at the National - Taekwondo Championship with six golds, a silver and five bronze medals.

Second and third went to HCM City and Public Security.

HCM City bagged four gold, four silver and five bronze medals while Public Security won two golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Ha Noi had lost their title at last year’s event with HCM City gaining silver medals.

The event’s best eight players will be chosen to compete at the World Taekwondo Championship in Denmark next month.

They will train in South Korea for a month in preparation for the third Asian Indoor Games and the Southeast Asian Games in Laos this December.

Vietnamese in form at Chinese chess titles

Vietnamese players got off to a promising start at the World Championship of Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) in Xintin City, Shandong province, China.

In the men’s singles, Nguyen Thanh Bao beat Chen Wan Wei and Wong Chi Keung, while Ngo Lan Huong drew with Gao Yi Ping and You Ying Qin but beat Xu Xiao Fei.

Two top Vietnamese players have chances to win medals and gain experience in preparation for the third Asian Indoor Games, to be held in Viet Nam on October 30.
