The Viet Nam Vovinam Federation (VVF) and the Bac Ninh Physical Training and Sports College signed a memorandum of understanding to teach the martial art at the university.

The two organisations will coordinate to add the Vietnamese martial art to the curriculum in 2009-10, developing training plans and publishing textbooks.

The VVF will provide the funds and equipment necessary for training.

A Vovinam research institute or centre will be set up this year to develop it systematically and popularise it at regional and global levels.

Amateur golfer donates $5,000 to AO victims

An amateur golfer from Korea on Wednesday donated US$5,000 to the Viet Nam Association of Victims of Agent Orange, after winning the Golf for the Environment tournament.

An Kwang Seob was awarded a Mercedes-Benz car valued at $60,000 for winning the tournament, which was held in June. All proceeds from the tourney were donated to the AO association.

The tournament was organised by The Guide of the Viet Nam Economic Times at the Song Be Golf Course in HCM City earlier this year.

Nearly 100 professional and amateur golfers nationwide participated.

Le Thanh Hai, deputy editor-in-chief of the Viet Nam Economic Times, also donated VND100 million ($5,600) to the Viet Nam Association of AO Victims.

District 8 wins martial arts championship

The martial artists team of District 8 won 13 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals to come in first at HCM City’s Vovinam championship, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium.

The District 3 team was second with six gold, four silver and two bronze medals, while District 2 finished third with four, four and three medals.

Nearly 300 athletes from 20 districts across the city gathered at the three-day tournament to compete in 53 events.

The national Vovinam championship will be organised in September to prepare for the Asian Indoor Games in November.
