Vietnamese swimmers Nguyen Huu Viet and Do Huy Long, who both recorded their best times at the World Swimming Championships in Rome, last week, have left for Kunming, China, to train.

Viet Nam Aquatic Sports Association general secretary Dinh Viet Hung said Viet and Long were expected to win medals at the Southeast Asian Games in Laos this December and the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, next year.

The National Sports Administration has been sponsoring the two athletes for the last four years.

The general secretary added that Hoang Quy Phuoc, 16, was also a medal hopeful at the SEA Games.

Disabled athletes to compete in ASEAN games

A 91-member team will compete at the ASEAN ParaGames 5 in Malaysia on August 12-19, the Viet Nam Paralympic Association said on Thursday.

The team will participate in six out of eleven events – track and field, swimming, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton and chess.

Viet Nam sent nine athletes to compete in track and field, swimming, weightlifting and judo at the Summer Beijing Paralympics last year.

Hai Phong Cement sweep V-League voting

Hai Phong Cement, who won all four of their V-League games in July, were named team of the month, the Viet Nam Football Federation announced.

The team received 46 votes from sports reporters in the country.

The Hai Phong side had another reason to be happy – maestro Brazilian Leandro De Oliveira was named player of the month.

National top striker Pham Van Quyen of Song Lam Nghe An, came second and Hoang Dinh Tung from Thanh Hoa, third.

Hai Phong’s Vuong Tien Dung was named coach of the month.

Meanwhile, the best goal of the month was awarded to Quyen, who scored from a free kick in a game against Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
