Nguyen Tien Minh of Ho Chi Minh City cruised through the men’s singles final of the Yonex Chinese Taipei Gold Grand Prix on Sunday to cement his place among the world’s top badminton players.

The world number ten, and the tournament’s third seed, defeated 12th-ranked and sixth-seeded Wong Choong Hann of Malaysia in straight sets 21-11, 21-14.

It was Tien Minh’s second Grand Prix title this year, having won in Thailand last month.

Besides almost US$13,000 in cash, the only Vietnamese player to get into the world’s top one hundred received 7,000 BWF ranking points, which will do his position no harm when the Badminton World Federation releases the latest rankings next week.
