Reigning V-League champions Da Nang beat Tien Giang 2-0 victory in the final rounds of the U21 National Football Tournament on Thursday.

Both teams played attacking football, pleasing thousands of spectators who had flocked to the Go Dau Stadium despite the downpour.

With outstanding players like Quoc Anh, Nhat Tan, Van Moc and Huynh Phuc Hiep, Tien Giang took control of the first half and created lots of chances.

Van Moc and Ngoc Huy were dynamic in the front line keeping Da Nang’s defenders busy.

However, Phuc Hiep, who took Tien Giang to its first U21 title in 2006 and helped Da Nang earn the same trophy last year, failed to convert the chances for Tien Giang.

Moc wasted Tien Giang’s clearest chance when he had only Da Nang’s goalkeeper Xuan Nam to get past.

After the interval, Da Nang changed its attacking strategy, surprising their rivals. Soon they broke the deadlock as Nguyen Sa took a cross from Van Meo flicked a Thanh Nam cross to him.

The match then became more exciting with 2006 champions Tien Giang launching relentless attacks that were countered by Da Nang who counterattacked, waiting for a chance. Its time came in the final minutes as Cong Thao went around several defenders to find the net.

In another Group B match, Quang Ninh beat Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) 2-1 while in Group A, Ho Chi Minh City drew 1-1 with T&T Hanoi.

After the first rounds, Da Nang and Quang Ninh are leading Group B with three points each and Tien Giang and HAGL are at the bottom with zero points each.

Hosts Binh Duong leads Group A with three points after a 2-0 win over the 2007 champions Khanh Hoa on Wednesday, followed by HCMC and T&T Hanoi with one point each and Khanh Hoa at the bottom with zero points.
