Ho Chi Minh City tops national swimming meet

Ho Chi Minh City took top place with 16 gold medals at he national swimming championships ending in Hanoi on Sunday.

The Army team came in second with eight golds followed by Hanoi with four.

Other teams that did well at the annual meet included Hai Phong with three golds, Quang Binh and Thua Thien-Hue city with two each, and Quang Ninh and Da Nang with one gold each.

Nine records were broken at the five-day competition - the men’s 200m freestyle, women’s 200m butterfly, women’s 50m backstroke, men’s 200m breaststroke, men’s 1,500m freestyle, women’s 200m breaststroke, women’s 200m freestyle, women’s 400m medley and women’s 100m medley relay.

Kim Tuyen of Ho Chi Minh City was the star of the contest, winning four gold medals for the southern hub in the women’s 200m butterfly, women’s 400m medley, women’s 50m backstroke and women’s 100m medley relay.

The 15-year-old broke two national records in the women’s 200m butterfly and women’s 100m medley relay.
