LookAtVietnam – Over 3,000 athletes, coaches and 13 news agencies have registered to take part in the third Asian Indoor Games in Viet Nam from October 30

Viet Nam has invested over VND100 billion (US$5.5 million) in infrastructure for the media at the competition venues in Ha Noi, HCM City, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong and Quang Ninh, said the deputy head of the media sub-committee at AIG, Hoang Du.

At a press briefing yesterday, September 14, in Ha Noi, Du also said the games, which will be the biggest international sporting event to date in Viet Nam, is expected to host 2,000 reporters from 45 countries and territories at the two-week event.

“We will provide the best conditions for reporters and media during the games here,” he said.

The headquarters of the media centre will be located in a 2,400sq.m area at Giang Vo Exhibition Centre, where up to 700 reporters will be working at the same time.

The centre will be inaugurated on October 26.

“We have received registrations from big media agencies world-wide, who are eager to take part in AIG. But we hope that more reporters will come to Viet Nam during the biggest indoor games in Asia, and register before September 30,” said AIG’s media centre Nguyen Tuyet Hoa.

She also added the media centre will reserve extra press passes for reporters who register late.

During a two-day leadership meeting for the participating countries in Ha Noi last month, the Olympic Council of Asia’s honorary vice president, Wei Jizhong, said he made sure that all 45 members of OCA will participate in the game in Viet Nam. Jizhong also noted that it will be the biggest AIG to date.

As scheduled, the opening ceremony will be held at Ha Noi’s 40,000-seat My Dinh National Stadium, while Quan Ngua Sports Palace, in the same city, will host the closing ceremony on November 8.

AIG is expected to attract over 4,000 athletes, coaches and officials, who will compete in 20 official sports and a demonstration event for 219 medal sets.
