LookAtVietnam – V-League Song Lam Nghe An’s playmaker Pham Van Quyen was named player of the month after getting 30 points in a poll of the country’s sports reporters.

Top gun: V-League club Song Lam Nghe An playmaker Pham Van Quyen was named player of the month.

Quyen beat South African striker Phinali of Binh Duong and The Cong’s winger Thach Bao Khanh to take the title for the best player of the month.

It’s the first title of the year for Quyen. He previously won the Golden Ball award for the best player of the year in 2003.

The 25-year-old was also responsible for the most outstanding event in the history of Vietnamese football, when he scored a goal against World Cup semi-finalists South Korea at an Asia Cup qualifier in Oman in 2003.

He became the only Vietnamese player to ever score against the Asian football giant.

Song Lam Nghe An also finished third in V-League just behind Da Nang, who won the championship after 17 years of waiting.

However, Nghe An team coach Nguyen Van Thinh was named coach of the month when he helped the team grab three wins and a draw in V-League, last month.

But the central team did not surpass Binh Duong in the poll for the best team of the month gaining only 40 points, two points less than the southern team.

Sport reporters nationwide also awarded supporting team Da Nang with the best supporters of the year.

The premier league closed last Sunday.

Military Zone 4’s striker Lazaro De Souza and Argentina’s Merlo Gaston, from Da Nang, drew for the title of top scorer with both players scoring 15 goals.
