Viet Nam wins chess silvers; Athletes’ village inaugurated; Movenpick to hold golf tourney

Viet Nam won two silver medals at the World Chinese Chess Championship which finished on Wednesday in China.

Nguyen Thanh Bao pocketed seven points to finish second, after Zhao Xin Xin of China. Meanwhile, national champion Ngo Lan Huong successfully defended her silver on the women’s side with five wins and two draws. The winner is You Ying Qi of China.

The 11th world championship saw nearly 90 masters, males and females, from 28 teams. The event provided the athletes with preparation for the coming Asian Indoor Games from 30 October to November 8 in Viet Nam.

Athletes’ village inaugurated

The 25th SEA Games’ athlete village in Vientiane, Laos, was inaugurated on Wednesday and is ready to welcome participants for the regions biggest sporting event this December.

The construction complex was built by Vietnamese workers and supported by Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group with a cost of US$19 million of that amount $4 million is in the form of a grant.

The village has eight five-storey buildings with a capacity of 1,000 rooms.

After SEA Games, the construction will be converted into a student dormitory for the Laos National University.

Movenpick to hold golf tourney

Movenpick Hotel Hanoi and Movenpick Hotel Saigon will jointly organise a Charity Golf Tournament at King’s Island Golf Club in Ha Noi benefiting Agent Orange victims in Viet Nam.

The tournament will start at 7.30 am on September 26 followed by a Gala dinner at the Movenpick Hotel Hanoi.
