LookAtVietnam – The top Vietnamese swimmers will compete at the National Swimming Championships, at the VietinBank Cup at Ha Noi Aquatic Sports Centre

Viet, who broke three national records at the National Short Course Swimming Championships in Ha Noi in March, will test his form at the championships, after a six-month training session in Kunming, China, where he and his teammates Phuoc and Do Huy Long of Ha Noi sweat it out in preparation for the Southeast Asian Games in Laos this December.

“Viet and his national teammates took part in big tests against Chinese swimmers in China, where they were in prolonged training,” said Dinh Viet Hung, the Viet Nam Aquatic Sports Association (VASA)’s general secretary.

Rising star

“Besides Viet, Hoang Quy Phuoc,16, has been a rising star since he debuted at the championship last year. But he needs more time to test his skills and gain some experience. I’m sure that Phuoc will surprise everyone at international competitions in the future,” the general secretary added.

In the women’s contest, HCM City will show off their powers and prowess once again, as they have dominated in the championships for over a decade.

Trio An Do Hanh, Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen and Vo Thi Thanh Vy will all be hunting for a gold medal at the biggest event of the year.

This year aquatic sport championship will begin with a finswimming event on Sunday, with the participation of 117 athletes from 17 teams.

Competitors will compete in the men’s and women’s events of surface (diving with a snorkel) and immersion (diving with an air tank).

The annual tournament is sponsored by the Viet Nam Joint stock Bank for Industry and Trade and has a total cash-prize of VND100 million (US$5,500).
