Vietnam won silver medals in the men’s individual, women’s individual and men’s teams at the 2009 Chinese Chess International in Shandong, China, which concluded on Wednesday.

In the men’s individual, Nguyen Thanh Bao of Vietnam led for eight games and was poised to take gold but drew with Zhao Guo Rong of China in the final game, so the gold medal went to Zhao Jin Jin of the host nation.

China won the men’s teams too, while Bao, Lai Ly Huynh and Ly Lam Huy of Vietnam had to settle for second place.

In the women’s individual, Ngo Lan Huong picked up a silver medal after drawing with Gao Yi Ping of Taiwan.
