Victory over Iran in straight games on Sunday gave Vietnam its second win on the trot in the 15th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championships in Hanoi.

Cheered by enthusiastic home supporters at Quan Ngua Sports Hall, the Vietnamese women, who had beaten Australia in straight games on Saturday, outclassed the visitors 25-11, 25-14, 25-18.

In consistent form, attackers Ngoc Hoa and Bui Thi Hue city delivered unstoppable strikes to help Vietnam win the first set without much trouble.

Iran improved its defense in the second game and was only down 13-17 at one stage, but its efforts came to naught when Vietnam tightened up to finish 25-14.

In the third and deciding game, the visitors attempted to make amends but the mightier Vietnamese women cruised to a 25-18 win and sealed victory.

In other matches, Australia crushed Sri Lanka in straight games, as did Japan against Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan against Hong Kong.

India beat Indonesia 3-2 and South Korea defeated Thailand by the same margin.

In the next match, Vietnam is tipped to overpower Sri Lanka, which lost to Iran in straight games in the opening round on Saturday.
