Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will open a meeting to vote on the new executive board and its chairman in Hanoi next month, reported the federation at a press briefing last week.

In a meeting session, VFF’s 76 members recommended 57 candidates to run for the new executive board in mid-October.

All members of VFF’s executive board agreed that the new board will be reduced to 21 or 23 members, replacing the old board of 39 members.

“We will make changes for the new term next year following the suggestions from the World Football Governing Body, FIFA, and Asian Football Confederation, AFC.

“All deputies agreed that the new executive board will be more effective with streamlined members,” said VFF’s chairman Nguyen Trong Hy.

“At the meeting, all members of the old executive board also agreed with the renewal decision that VFF’s newly elected chairman will have the right to appoint a new general secretary after getting approval from the members of the executive board.”

Hy said that new changes would help renovate VFF and restructure the organisation.

The 62-year-old chairman also said VFF would invite AFC’s president, Mohammed bin Hammam, to take part in the vote, which is held at the Young Football Training Centre, next month.

In the new vote, 76 members of VFF, including representatives of 23 local football federations and premierships, V-League and First Division teams, 18 Second Division teams, six women’s teams and others, will have the right to vote.

In the last vote four-years-ago, only 39 members of the executive board were eligible to vote for the chairman and other top positions.

The VFF chairman is considered the most important position in Vietnamese football, which hopes to develop in order to be competitive on an international level.

The new five-year term will see 76 members of VFF voting for the six top positions including: chairman, three vice-chairmen, a general secretary and deputy-general secretary.

The VFF meeting is held once every five years to vote for the top positions of the sports federation in Viet Nam.

As scheduled, Viet Nam will host the FIFA World U-17 and U-20 Women’s Football Championships along with the ASEAN Championship.
