Vietnam suffered a 1-3 defeat to Kazakhstan in the second round of the 15th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Though strongly supported by spectators at the Quan Ngua Sports Hall, the hosts looked weak compared to the visitors in the first set and lost 13-25.

Stars like Ngoc Hoa, Kim Hue city and Dieu Chau fought back confidently but the Vietnamese still lost the second set 25-27.

But the narrow defeat in the second set heightened the Vietnamese players’ spirits and they took the third set 25-23.

With the third set loss, Kazakhstan improved their defense and blocked most attacks from Vietnam at the net to snatch the fourth set 25-17.

In other matches, China crushed Iran 3-0 while Hong Kong thrashed Sri Lanka by the same margin and Japan beat Thailand 3-1.
