Amateur golfers chase $112,000; Federation to vote for chairman; Table tennis players invited to Egypt; Indoor handbooks to be published; Nguyet back in action

More than 300 amateur golfers will compete in the Toyota Golf Tournament 2009 tomorrow at the Long Thanh Golf Resort, Dong Nai province, for over US$112,000 in prizes.

Both male and female members of Toyota VIP Customer Club will play in the five division handicap contest.

Each division includes the best net, first runner-up and second runner-up prizes. A tournament best prize will also be awarded. The Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin prizes will go to both men and ladies.

The special prizes of a Fortuner V and Camry 3.5Q will be awarded to hole-in-one winners.

A similar tournament will also be organised in the north at Phoenix Golf Resort on October 31, in Hoa Binh province.

Federation to vote for chairman

A new executive board and chairman of the Viet Nam Football Federation will be elected at a meeting that is being held at the Young Football Training Centre in Ha Noi today, October 15.

Representatives from 23 local football federations and premierships, V-League and First Division teams, 18 Second Division teams, six women’s teams and others, will have the right to vote.

Asian Football Confederation’s general secretary, Alex Soosay, will also take part in the meeting.

The meeting is held once every five years to elect individuals to the top positions of the sports federation in Viet Nam.

Table tennis players invited to Egypt

Vietnamese table tennis players Doan Kien Quoc and Mai Hoang My Trang have received invitations from an Egyptian club to play with them in an Arabian tournament from December 24-31.

The invitations came after the Vietnamese athletes won one gold and two silver medals at the Francophone Games in Lebanon earlier this month.

Vietnamese athletes have played for teams from Malaysia and Thailand in the past.

Indoor handbooks to be published

Asian Indoor Games organisers have decided to publish bilingual handbooks in English and Vietnamese to provide instructions and information to athletes and attendees.

Organisers said there would be thousands of visitors coming to Viet Nam during the 10-day event. The event will hopefully be a good chance for the hosts to promote Viet Nam to the global community.

The handbooks provide information about restaurants and hotels, cultural hubs, entertainment venues, shopping centres and places of scenic beauty in the country.

The organisers have also made a commitments with the-owners of these venues in order to ensure cooking hygiene, safety, price controls and security for their potential customers.

Nguyet back in action

National halfback Nguyen Minh Nguyet has returned to practise after being sidelined for nearly four weeks after being bitten by a poisonous snake.

She is scheduled to play with the national team, who will take part in the Coal-Minerals Cup that kicks off tomorrow in Quang Ninh province.

The return of the veteran is good news for the team going into the tournament, which will help prepare them for the SEA Games in Laos later this year.

Nguyet was bitten by a poisonous snake while she was walking after a training session near Tam Dao last month.
