Media centre in Ha Noi opens; HCMC looks for haul of medals at Games; Women football team wins international; Women’s cycling tournament begins

The main media centre for the third Asian Indoor Games opened yesterday in Ha Noi’s Giang Vo exhibition hall.

The centre has a floor space of 3,500sq.m and will able to accommodate 700 journalists, who will be able to access up-to-date information, photos and results from all events.

Another media centre opened in HCM City in the same day. Two centres will also provide media representatives services such as healthcare, foreign exchange, workspace and volunteer assistants.

HCMC looks for haul of medals at Games

HCM City’s athletics squad is aiming to win six to eight gold medals at the third Asian Indoor Games, which opens on Friday in Ha Noi.

HCM City has 31 coaches and 110 athletes out of a total of 100 coaches and 400 athletes in Viet Nam attending the games. The city’s athletes will betaking part in 19 out of 24 events.

The country’s main medal hopes will be in vovinam, xiangqi, chess, billiards, snooker and muay thai.

At the second Games in Macau, Ngo Lan Huong won a gold in the women’s individual xiangqi (Chinese chess) event, and Duong Anh Vu won a gold in the men’s one-cushion carom singles event.

Women football team wins international

The Viet Nam women’s football team won the International Women’s Football Tournament TKV after beating Thailand 2-0 at Cua Ong stadium in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The team received a bonus payment of VND40 million (US$2,200) and VND200 million from the Viet Nam Football Federation.

Thailand and Laos finished second and third, respectively, and were awarded prize money of VND30 million and VND20 million.

The top scorer was Viet Nam’s Do Ngoc Cham, who found the back of the net four times. The best player award went to Thailand’s Junpen Seesraum, while Viet Nam’s Dang Kieu Trinh was named best goal keeper.

Women’s cycling tournament begins

The four-stage National Women’s Cycling Tournament will kick off tomorrow, October 28.

Cyclists from 10 teams nationwide will pedal through Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh provinces and around Ha Noi’s Hoan Kiem Lake.

The event is co-organised by Ha Noi Television and the Viet Nam Cycling Federation.
