Brunei prince to compete in billiards; Thailand beat Japan to lead Group B; 319 athletes to participate in Games

The most unusual player of the third Asian Indoor Games, Brunei’s crown prince, Al Muhtadee Billiah, presented at HCM City on Wednesday to compete in billiards & snooker event.

Billiah was accompanied with his wife, two brothers and one sister alongside 20-people entourage in a special aircraft.

Billiah’s group stayed at five-star hotel Park Hyaat where a billiard table with international standard was available for him to train.

Moreover, this VIP player will give a private room to compete at Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium where billiards & snooker event will start tomorrow, October 31.

Thailand beat Japan to lead Group B

Thailand shocked onlookers by beating fancied Japan 4-2 in the much anticipated opening Group B match of the third Asian Indoor Games in HCM City’s Phu Tho Gymnasium, yesterday.

Thailand defended strongly and were merciless on the attack.

Thailand’s goals came from Keatiyot Chalaemkhet in the 13th minute, Ekkaphan Suratsawang (21st), Panuwat Janta (22nd) and Suphawut Thueanklang (37th).

Despite a sterling performance by Thai goalkeeper Surapong Tompa, Kazunori Sugawara and Reo Yokoe each scored in the last minute of the match to reduce the deficit to two goals.

On women’s side, Japan beat Uzbekistan 5-3 in the opener, to take three points.

Komola Usmanova scored in the 1st and 20th minutes, while Makhfuza Turapova scored in the 21st.

Japan’s goals came from Sayo Kikkawa (5th), Shiori Nakajima (21st), Miru Utsugi (33rd) and Azumi Fujita (38th), Oliya Ahmedova scored an own goal.

319 athletes to participate in Games

As many as 319 athletes from 32 countries and territories will compete in the athletics event, according to the third Asian Indoor Games’ organising board.

These 32 countries and territories came Viet Nam yesterday. On the same day, the organising board held a meeting to answer all their questions before they start to grab medals tomorrow.
