Golf resort to serve Hai Phong; Hien wins Run for Peace; FIFA lifts international ban

Do Son Seaside Golf Resort will be the first 18-hole course to serve the populous Hai Phong city market.

Situated against a curved stretch of Do Son Beach less than 20 minutes from the northern region’s primary seaport, the club is expected to draw visitors to and residents from Hai Phong, whose population is on pace to top two million by the beginning of next year.

After three years of design and construction, Do Son Seaside Golf Resort includes a number of lakes for a unique golfing experience.

The club is affiliated with Kings’ Island Golf, a 36-hole course that introduced golf to Ha Noi in 1994.

Hien wins Run for Peace

National team member Pham Thi Hien enjoyed an easy win yesterday, October 4 in the capital’s 37th Run for Peace, sponsored by Ha Noi Moi newspaper.

The runner from Thai Binh won the women’s 3,500m race in style, leaving her nearest competition, Nguyen Thi Dong of Ha Noi and Nguyen Thi Huong, far behind.

Last week Hien pocketed two gold medals, one at the national championship and the other at a pre-Asian Indoor Games tournament, both held in HCM City.

The men’s gold medal went to the Army team’s Nguyen Van Lai, who was followed by Phung Manh Dung of the Border Soldiers team and Hanoian Bui Van Toan.

The organisers also presented awards to winners of the amateur competitions and to foreign athletes.

FIFA lifts international ban

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has lifted an international suspension on four out of the seven national players involved in a match-fixing scandal at the South East Asian Games in 2005.

Le Bat Hieu, Chau Le Phuoc Vinh, Tran Hai Lam, Huynh Quoc Anh, Pham Van Quyen, Le Van Truong and Le Quoc Vuong were all found guilty of fixing the match between Viet Nam and Myanmar at the 23rd SEA Games so that the former could win by a one-goal margin.

Hieu, Vinh, Lam and Anh, who have been allowed to play locally since the second half of the 2008 V-League season, were able to return to international competition beginning on Thursday.

FIFA made the decision following an earlier request by the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF) after observing the players’ efforts to improve themselves and their big contributions to their clubs.

The three other players were allowed by VFF to play for their clubs in the 2009 V-League season, but their international ban has not been lifted.
